ゴラン・ポポヴィ 「人」 個展

クロアチア生まれの写真家ゴラン・ポポヴィは、今までに世界中を旅しました。千葉に住んでそろそろ1年経ちます、現在は日本文化のあらゆることにとても興味を持っています。彼の美学は普通の人々の生活や日常の何気ない景色にユーモアと悦びを見つけることです。

ほとんどの人が周囲で起こるさり気ないが楽しい一瞬を見逃してしまいます。たぶんそれは私たちがスマホの小さなスクリーンを見るのに忙しかったり、SNSでシェアするためにスマホを使って記録していたりするからでしょう。ポポヴィはこれをもう一つのテーマ「自撮り文化」として取り上げています。いたるところで見られるこの行為に彼は魅力と娯楽を感じています。

彼はラーツュ・ツンビヨルク、オットー・スヌーク、マーティン・パーや森山大道に影響を受け、何よりも誠実でいるよう努力をし、それが作品からも伝わります。取り巻く環境や対象を見下さず、彼は周囲に人間性や愉快さを見つけ、それを作品にしてシェアしてくれます。私たちも余裕を持って日々の生活を気にかけたいですね。

写真のほか、ポポヴィは撮影した対象にインスパイアされて音楽を作るのを楽しんでいます。ストリートでスマホを使って音楽のアイデアを「スケッチ」し、それを後日整えていきます。この展示では彼の曲も写真と共に楽しんでもらう趣向です。

GORAN POPOVIC "PEOPLE" SOLO EXHIBITION

Croatian born photographer Goran Popovic has travelled the world. He has been living in Chiba, Japan for almost a year now and has been very interested in all aspects of the culture. His main aesthetic has been finding the humor and joy of life in the average people and scenes we pass by everyday. 

Most of us fail to notice the casual fun moments going on around us. Part of that is because we are looking at the screens of our phones or using them to record ourselves to share on social media. This is another theme Popovic picks up on; our selfie culture. Again, he finds the charm and entertainment in this ubiquitous activity.

Above all, like his influences  Lars Tunbjörk, Otto Snoek, Martin Paar and Daido Moriyama, Popovic strives to be honest and convey that in his work. Never looking down on his environment or subjects, his work reflects the humanity and mirth he sees around him and shares it with us so hopefully, we take the time to notice as well in our everyday lives.

In addition to his photography, Popovic enjoys recording music inspired by what he photographs. Using his smartphone, he “sketches” musical ideas while inspired out in the streets and refines it later. This exhibition will feature his songs to accompany the work on the walls.
