My recent work portrays the scenes of areas where suicides are prevalent. I believe that the injustices of society lead us to take our thoughts and actions to these places. From the time we are born, society imprints us to think in a certain way. Being born as a female or male, home environment, race, society, and country all contribute to what shapes individualism in our world. In Japan we are taught at a very early age that equality defines our society, but I don’t believe this to be true. There is no equality here.
Suicide treats all who choose this path equally.
The act itself has no borders and so true equality is obtained regardless of age, race, or gender.
Having committed to his or her final actions, no one will ever know the final thoughts that the person was feeling, whether it was joy or sadness. It could be said at the final moment of life that the equality we are taught is truly obtained.
