“跡 ― trace scar sign”

この度、斉藤真起の個展「跡 ― trace scar sign」を、2026年8月14日(金)～23日(日) 13:00～19:00 (金土日のみ)に、横浜・石川町のLAUNCH PAD GALLERYにて開催いたします。本展は、絵画と素描を空間全体に配置したインスタレーションの展示です。水平線の向こうの沖縄の風景と、その底から発せられる微かな気配を通じて、歴史と現在の交差を感じていただければ幸いです。
「夏の雨が激しく地面を叩き、程なく上がると、再び強烈な陽射しが島の輪郭を剥き出しにする。
沖縄に移住して8年、沖縄戦の記憶が刻まれた土地をただなぞるように歩いている。風景に潜む声や出来事の残響を汲み上げる試みは、この島でおきた事実と、自身の「知っていたつもり」という認識との乖離を埋めるプロセスでもある。昨年の夏からは地元紙に掲載された戦時下での一日ごとの証言（＊）を頼りに歩いている。
現地では小さなノートにスケッチをし、古木や地面や、塀や石垣をフロッタージュする。それは直接身体に土地の記憶を写し取る行為(trace)となり、そこに出現する線やグラファイトの集積が風景の隠し持っていた傷跡(scar)を浮き上がらせる。それは時に、自身の中に染み込んでいたイメージを激しく揺さぶる。
持ち帰ったスケッチを絵画に起こす。キャンバスの上に油絵具で層を作ること、そして手近な紙へ日記のようにドローイングしコラージュする行為は、歴史の断片をいまに繋ぎ、その地続きにある私たちの現在地を明確にする兆し(sign)となる。」

LAUNCH PAD GALLERY is pleased to announce the upcoming exhibition titled “Ato ― trace scar sign” by Maki Saito on 8/14/2026 Fri. - 8/23 Sun. (opens Fri, Sat, Sun only)
“Summer rain beats down fiercely on the ground, and when it clears shortly afterward, the intense sunlight once again lays bare the island’s contours.
It has been eight years since I moved to Okinawa, and I walk as if simply tracing the land where the memories of the Battle of Okinawa are etched. My attempt to draw out the voices and echoes of events hidden within the landscape is also a process of bridging the gap between the facts that occurred on this island and my own perception of what I “thought I knew.” Since last summer, I have been walking while relying on daily wartime testimonies (*) published in a local newspaper.
On site, I sketch in a small notebook and make frottages of old trees, the ground, walls, and stone walls. This becomes an act of “tracing” the land’s memories directly onto my body, and the lines and accumulations of graphite that emerge there bring to light the scars hidden within the landscape. At times, this process violently shakes up the images that had seeped deep into my own being.
I transform the sketches into paintings. The act of building layers of oil paint on canvas, as well as drawing and collaging on whatever paper is at hand ―much like keeping a diary― serves as a “sign” that connects fragments of history to the present and clarifies our current position, which is an extension of that land.
This exhibition is an installation in which these paintings and sketches are arranged throughout the entire gallery space.
I hope that, through the landscapes of Okinawa beyond the horizon and the faint presence emanating from their depths, you will sense the intersection of history and the present.”
