SHISEI HASHIMURA - SUMMERTIME BLUES

Shisei Hashimura's work may look benign at first glance, but the deeper you look and the more you think about the times we are living in, it becomes clearer that there is much to be contemplated about how we treat the world and each other.

Artist Statement:

"Summer Time Blues" is a song from the album "Covers", which was released in 1988 by my favorite musician Kiyoshiro Imawano, who wrote original Japanese lyrics against nuclear power plants to music of the original song written by Eddie Cochran. Six years have passed since his death and Japan after 3.11, has come to be like the future more and more that he was worried about 26 years ago. Yet on the other hand, surprisingly our daily lives continue as if nothing had happened. I try to convey in my work this kind of ambivalent personal landscape.
